Afritec Seeds Limited was registered as a LLC in Kenya in August, 2014. It was registered then as a Seed Merchant with KEPHIS, the national regulator body of Kenya responsible for regulating seed production and sales. The company got initial funding from FoodTrade East and Southern Africa, funded by DIFID, British Aid. The company is headquartered in Malindi, Kenya, with operations in Kisumu, KE, and in Morogoro, Tanzania. Work is ongoing in Uganda, but indirectly through partners. As of February 2018, the company will have hybrids registered for sale in Kenya, followed by similar products registered in Tanzania in 2019.

Farm modeling and scale up has been our market development strategies aimed and demonstrating to farmers the profitability potentials of selected crops.
For the last four years we have been developing rice value chain in Kisumu county targeting farmers within Kano plains, in partnership with Afritech seeds, we introduced AT058 rice seeds that we modeled in 2017/18 and it demonstrated superiority over the local varieties, yield average was 3500kgs per acre with average revenue of Ksh 122,500/ per acre.In 2019/2020 Afritech introduced AT077 Hybrid rice seeds and AT054 improved rice variety both of which are a aromatic in nature, the germination rate in each one of the seeds was above 90% and stressing coping level upon transplanting was superb, the seeds are resistant to pest and diseases and are very promising in terms of revenue generation per acre. Currently harvesting has not been done and we are hoping to realize between 4000kg to 5000kg per acre.
